Turkey and the Middle East

You would think Egypt would welcome Turkey’s efforts to bring peace to a neighbouring Muslim country.  However, the Egyptian regime, as opposed to its people, represents the interests of the West, and Israel in the region, as well as Christian Zionists in the USA.  A war between Egypt and Turkey would benefit Israel and countries like Greece and France, and the Christian Zionists and neocon agenda in the USA.

Turkey having a foothold in North Africa is important for the Muslim world and African states in the region.  The Russians are also trying to get into the region to empower their co-religionists in Ethiopia.  The countries with the two largest populations of Orthodox Christians are Russian (53 million) and Ethiopia.  Ethiopia currently has a population of 115 million of which 45 million are Orthodox Christian (oriental as opposed to Eastern).  Its population is expected to rise to 200 million in the coming decades. Next to Libya and Ethiopia is Sudan another Muslim country.

What Israel fears most is that it has pro Turkey and Palestinian states surrounding it to its South, with an already hostile Iran and pro Iranian states on its North.  On Israel’s side are Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The West, particularly France, fears its hegemony and exploitation of African states will come to an end.

A war between Egypt and Ethiopia against Turkey in Libya is a real possibility.  Turkey needs to act decisively and quickly to bring stability to Libya.

It is in this context that a simple non-controversial act of allowing a Museum to also be a place of prayer, has become a geopolitical and religious propaganda campaign against Turkey (even its Ottoman past).
