Ayaan Institute Research Associate Areeba Sherwani Wins Golden Pen Award In Chechen Republic

London 6th January 2025: Areeba Sherwani, a Research Associate with the Ayaan Institute, has won a “Golden Pen” award and a $3500 prize for her work. The 11th International Press Award ceremony, “Golden Pen”, was held in Grozny, Chechen Republic, Russia in December 2024. The Golden Pen Awards were for the best works from among 500 entries from Russia and 15 other countries worldwide. Traditionally, entrants are divided into five categories: Radio, Television, Print, Online Publications, Photos and blogs.

Areeba entered her article for the Ayaan Institute, ” Fear and Faith: Cow Vigilantism and Muslim Lynching in India”, under the category of online publication (articles). Works are evaluated based on criteria such as topicality, depth of the problem, logic and coherence in presentation.

Chechnya’s Minister of National Policy and Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Dudaev, presented the awards.

Jahangir Mohammed, Director of the Ayaan Institute, said, “We are extremely proud of Areeba, as we are of all of our Associates, past and present. Since she joined Ayaan, Areeba has dedicated herself to Ayaan’s work, developing her writing skills and areas of interest, which include Paradiplomacy and economic development.  We are pleased that Ayaan and its works are being recognised internationally in parts of the Muslim world”.

Areeba Sherwani said, “After submitting my article, I was not expecting to be invited to the award ceremony and was even more surprised to receive the award. I would like to thank Ayaan for supporting me and the organisers for the Award. It was wonderful to visit Grozny and see the impressive post-war redevelopment of the city.”
