Notes:

  1. Some media are reporting a few MPs as Muslims who are not. Nadia Whittome identifies as LGBTQ+ and is of Indian Sikh and Catholic parentage/origin. Munira Wilson although raised in a Muslim family converted to Christianity. Feryal Clark (Dermici) is of Kurdish Alevi origin but identifies as a humanist, we could not establish if she identifies as Muslim. Leila Moran is a Palestinian Christian.
  2. Except for the 4 Independents, we consider all MPs to be representatives of their parties. Whilst they are Muslim, we should not confuse them to be Muslim MPs but as Labour or Conservative MPs.
  3. All these MPs made pre-election pledges that they were pro-Palestinian and would advocate for the Palestinian people once elected. We encourage the Muslim community to scrutinize them and hold them to account on their promises, including the independents.

OTHER MINORITY, ETHNIC, OR  FAITH MP’s.

  1. Persons of Indian heritage (PIH) MPs now number 29, of whom 12 are Sikh and 9 are Hindu. The number of Sikh MPs in the diaspora is now second only to Canada (18) highlighting the political growth of the Sikh community. Indian heritage MPs increased from 15 elected in 2019 to 29 in 2024. Of these, there were 12 new PIHs in Labour and 7 re-elected.  There were two new Conservative PIHs and 5 re-elected, with two new independents elected.
  2. There are now 28 Black MPs (including of mixed heritage), 16 are of Afro-Caribbean heritage and 12 of African heritage
  3. The Jewish Chronicle identifies 12 Jewish MPs.
  4. There are now 64 LGBTQ+ MPs of whom 50 are in the Labour Party, 7 Liberal Democrats, 5 Conservative, 1 Green, and 1 SNP.
